This is Rumor Control, here are the facts! Oh Medal of Honor, your one of the first,
if not THE first, World War II First Person Shooter ever to come out and yet people
prefer Call of Duty over you. Why? Because its better then you, in every way shape
and form. To me, Medal of Honor is more like a gateway game rather then an actual
series, being that it leads you to bigger and better games. Until now I had only
played three MOH games: Frontlines, Vanguard and Heroes 2. Frontline left no real
impression on me other then the fact that it starts off on D-Day, Vanguard was the
first WWII FPS I ever played but it still had lousy characters and Heroes 2… Sucked,
plain and simple. Now there are two reasons why Call of Duty is better: Call of Duty
has likeable, memorable characters and actually has a story! The story line is
engaging and well thought out, especially in Black Ops and the Modern Warfare games
and the characters leave such an impression on you that when one dies you feel for
him and are possibly on the verge of tears over his demise. In Medal of Honor the
story was simply "Kill the bad guy, beat the game, have a nice day." And the
characters… Well let's face it they were so boring and useless; it was like there
were no characters! So over the years Call of Duty has given Medal of Honor the
thrashing of a lifetime over and over. But what's this? A new Medal of Honor based
in modern times? Getting desperate there aren't ya, Medal of Honor? Well, before I
played this game I thought "Ok, maybe it will be good." By the time I finished the
first level my opinion had changed to "This is just going to suck!" However, by the
third level it went back to being pretty good, and from then on the game got better
and better and better, up until the point where I declared "This game rocks!" And
boy howdy, does it ever! For once, actually for once the creators of this game have
made a great Medal of Honor, with many things contributing to that fact. For one
thing, HOH is fun. The controls are simple and easy to get used to (easier then
Killzone 2 at least.) It's your standard FPS, just point, aim and shoot of course.
However, the AI on both sides is done really well, giving you a great challenge and
great help in times of crisis. There are other things you can do as well, such as
pick out targets for aerial strikes, use a really powerful sniper rifle and use ATVs
(the controls for those are hard t at first, but when you get the hang of them
riding the ATVs is a blast). There's also a part where you fly around in a
helicopter and shoot enemies, and right there is one thing that this game has over
Call of Duty. Any of you ever play Black Ops? Of course of you, that's why you're
reading this review. Well remember the lever where you and Woods fly around in
helicopters shooting enemies, and you had to do both (fly and shoot) at the same
damn time? Remember how much of a BITCH! That level was? Well in this game the
helicopter flies itself and all you have to do is shoot, making for an easy and
enjoyable experience. There are great moments and levels in this game, such as a
sequence where you and a few other soldiers are at the bottom of a huge hill where
wave upon wave of Taliban are running down. It starts off easy enough just shoot
them and survive. Oh how I wish it was that easy, for you see after a while you and
your teammates start to run low on ammo, there are more Taliban coming and they
begin to surround you and you're only means of cover is all but gone. You're
teammates begin to panic and worry, and that rubs off on you: You feel their fear
and their desperation in the matter. After a while your teammates realize that this
is the end but they want to go down swinging. At this point you will have died… a
lot, and you will have become frustrated. At this point you don't care anymore and
just want to win, or at least see your teammates die so you don't have to listen to
their constant whining! You think that when you do beat this level that you'll just
throw your arms up in aggravation and shout "Finally!" But no, when all seems lost,
two helicopters come and blow the enemy to hell. Here I had a strange reaction: I
jumped from my seat, cheered with joy and began to mock The Taliban as they fled.
For five minutes I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that we won, and that is one
hell of an emotion that does not happen often. So overall the game is fun. The
levels are lengthy and filled with challenges and are good enough to go through
again and again. The graphics are just like the game: They get better as you go
along. At first they seemed bland and buggy, something that would have been of a
lower standard. However, when it moves from level to level the graphics get better
and better, and they look nicer in sunny, desert areas. Some of the character
animations are a little bad, but overall everything else just looks great. Now we
come to the part where Medal of Honor has always faltered, the series Achilles
tendon: Story and Characters! Now the game actually starts off without a story,
believe it or not. It only starts with Medal of Honor's formula: Shoot the bad guy,
win the game, have a nice day, and that's how it goes… until a certain point! You
see towards the end of the game the story shifts from shoot, shoot, bang, bang to a
full blown rescue mission. Sure it's not the best thing, and quite frankly I'm
surprised the designers didn't go all out for the story. However, the rescue story
is well made, filled with tension and excitement. This is helped by the (Le Gasp!)
Great characters! The characters are likeable, well written and leave quite an
impression on you. Yeah, they start off ho hum at first but over time their
personalities and qualities are established, not to mention even more characters are
introduced, each better then the last. Yeah, they're not Call of Duty quality but
they're still surprisingly good. The story and the characters work great off of each
other, giving moments of drama and excitement. And these two qualities give for a
more powerful and emotional ending. Let me just say right not that this isn't your
run of the mill "Happy ending where the losers quit and the winners go home and f***
the prom queen", no no. The ending is a real downer, to the point where I was nearly
in tears, and that ladies and gentlemen is what I like to call a come from behind
victory for a game! So all in all how is Medal of Honor? It's great. Great
characters, a good story, fun, addictive gameplay and plenty of replay value for
hours of enjoyment. In my opinion this is every bit as good as The Modern Warfare
games. If you haven't played it yet then do it now! You won't regret it!
Verdict: 9/10

I have to say that MOH in the past didn't focus on realism like this one but it was still a good series. I mean I don't know y video game critics bashed this game but if I have to choose between COD and MOH; I'm going for MOH because MW2 totally ruined COD for me and then I began to see that COD didn't focus on realism anymore.
